Welcome to the marketing podcast, the number one podcast helping aspiring entrepreneurs level up their marketing. here's your host, Augustine. Let the class begin.

0:19
Hey guys, welcome back to yet another episode on The marketing podcast - digital marketing tips and insights, Episode 146. Now in today's episode, we are joined by a guest. This is someone who is looking to start his own podcast and he's been following up on the podcasting 101 series, if you haven't checked that, make sure to head on to our website and click on podcasting 101 series and get in tuned if you're looking to start your own podcast in 2021. So without further ado, I'll allow my guest to introduce himself and share with us what he's looking to get into as he gets his feet wet in the podcasting space. So please, a round of applause or maybe not because there's a podcast. But I don't know if applause for our next guest. And that is Moses.

1:13
Thank you for having me on your show on your podcast. Just a quick introduction about myself. My name is Moses, Githinji. I'm an engineer. And I've been following. I've been following up on your podcasts. And I would like to share the knowledge that I've been gaining in engineering field to help to help one person or another when

1:39
when they come into a decision on concerning engineering stuff. And that's really that's the thing that my podcast will all be about. That's interesting, because I've never really seen anyone doing engineering like in the podcasting space. So I'm interested to know how you plan to do your podcast like are we are you going into not out maybe on such an topics in engineering, because engineering is wide, but I know you as a mechanical engineer. So maybe I'm assuming you might be focusing on one topic, but maybe you can share with us because I'm trying to imagine how the podcasts we've kind of been, it's kind of cool, because, like I've said, I've never really seen anyone do engineering podcasts. I guess there are a couple of podcasts out there, maybe in engineering. But I think this is one of a kind maybe you can share with us on that topic.

2:40
Actually, what I'm planning, I will be dictating the mathematical formulas.

2:47
No, I'm just kidding.

2:50
You know, engineering is a very complicated thing is a very complicated field. And more as for the general public, it's hard.

3:01
With a with a podcast, what I'm trying to focus on is

3:05
bringing the understanding the knowledge that we have gained in engineering field in a very simple way, in order to understand some simple stuff that affects that affect our day to that influence our day to day life. And maybe from all this knowledge that I have been gaining, I can share them with with them. And they will help themselves in this regarding the field of engineering.

3:32
Interesting. And now because we are in the podcasting one, one series, and a lot of

3:39
you know, my students or my listeners who listen to the podcast,

3:45
are also interested in selling their own podcast, I'm interested to know how often are you planning on maybe publishing your podcasts or? Yeah, exactly that.

3:58
First of all,

4:00
since I'm, I'm a startup, I have to learn a lot of things. I've been reading a lot of things about podcasts, I've been listening to your podcast, and I've gained a lot of information. And based on the knowledge that I've gained, I think it will be more reasonable to do a weekly podcast, sharing

4:23
everything that's affecting the actual situation in the world, and also the actual situation and the field that I'm specialized in this the field of mainly simulation and air and my podcast will be called just for the flow.

4:40
And when you think about flow, everything around us, air water,

4:46
the traffic let's say everything is flowing and I want to bring all this the fundamental behind it, how does it flow? And how can you affect the flow? How can you improve the flow?

5:00
Can you optimize the flow? And how can you rationalize all this flow process for your own for your own advantage? Exactly.

So it's kind of like

5:14
a podcast that is catered,

5:17
that has to cater probably for, I'm assuming engineering students who are getting their feet wet into the industry, or maybe also in engineers who are simply starting out in their career, that's what I'm assuming Exactly. My, my main focus will be students, and also engineers that are that are ready to share their knowledge and also gain more knowledge from it. And also improve their understanding in the field that they are studying.

5:53
When you talk about engineering the days, that's a broad field, and you cannot specify it on an on one element, all of it, have a relationship with each other. And, exactly, so in order for them to understand all the relationship between these fields, these podcasts will help them to get this to make them understand this, this relationship between all these fields that are there.

6:23
Interesting. My question to you would be How do you feel

6:29
now that you've made up your mind and you want to, and we've talked about this a couple of times, and now that you've made up your mind, and you want to start your own podcast?

6:38
What's the feeling like? How do you feel you feel scared, ready, the to be real with you, I'm scared a little bit. Because

6:50
all the time I've been seeing numbers. And now it's the time that I'm I have to communicate, to bring all these numbers with words.

7:00
And, as you know, we are living in Germany, and we have been

7:05
speaking a different language. I've been thinking German for a very long time.

7:11
And now I have to go back to the other language that the English also and to bring this knowledge in English have learned all the knowledge that have in German. And that scares me a lot. But it doesn't, that's not, that's not a reason for me to

7:29
back back down or not proceed with the, with the aim of doing this podcast, I will start as a beginner. And I hope in future be eloquent on I can express myself better than

7:45
how I'm studying now. And I think that's a that's an issue that a lot of people who are multilingual face, and that is that sometimes you tend to speak more of one language than the other and you get used to thinking or constructing your thoughts in a certain language that you kind of lose the flow. Without without a language seem to like as much as I mentioned, we are in Germany and we have English as the official language from where we come from. And since we spend most of the time speaking German, we have a problem we sometimes have a problem with English because we kind of lose that free flow and anyone who has this, you know, kind of multi

8:28
language, multi lingual kind of proficiency can understand the problem that, you know, we're facing. podcasting is one thing that can really help you not only in terms of like I've mentioned in the series, not only in terms of networking and growing like what you're doing with TMP, documenting, like the whole process and everything. It can also help you in your speech, it can also help you in your confidence, having a conversation with Moses, and you're talking about, you know, during 140 something episodes on TMP has really helped me you know, talk to a lot of corporates to whom I was afraid because, like I've said, I am an ambivert As for my character, an introvert when I need to be an extrovert when I need to be, but then again,

9:13
the confidence is something that I really lacked when it comes to dealing with corporates and or, you know, getting my points across or feeling as if I'm listened to by people who I think that you know, are above and beyond who I am or who I want to become Moses. Where can people find you if they want to look for you on social media because we want to hold Moses accountable for his his podcast and it's kind of a new segment we are having on the podcasting one one series, now that most is starting his own podcast. When is it Moses? What is the first episode coming out? I'm looking forward in two weeks time I'll be posting my first episode in two weeks time Okay, so what will happen is that a link, he's

10:00
Broadcast down in the description box below. And we'll hold him accountable, maybe for flex getting four or five months. And then we can come back and look at the progress he has made. Now this not only for Moses only also, for anyone who's listening to the podcast in 111 series, I know there are a couple of guys in France, and also in Kenya who are listening who are tuned into the series. If you're looking to start your own podcast in 2021, you can start with us during the journey and start your own podcast. If you have any questions reach out to me, you can also reach out to Moses now that I'm closely linked to Moses, you can also reach out to him he can also help you with starting your own podcast, and maybe it's things to do with engineering.

10:46
Where can people find you online? online,

10:50
you can find me online on my Instagram account, I hope I'll give you I'll give you the link so that you can share it with others. And going back to the point that you have mentioned, actually miss starting now. And also seeing where I'm going that motivates me because I know I'll be developing, I'll be I'm faced with the challenge of being multilingual. And I'm looking forward to

11:16
communicate again in with English more fluently than in German so that I can my listeners will will be will be interested and understanding understanding all this knowledge that I have in my head. And

11:32
on my social media, you can find me in Instagram, Facebook, and also a LinkedIn. I'll be posting all this, I'll give all the details so that you can post them on your site miner, all the links will be down in the description box below. So if you're interested in getting to know Moses a bit

11:50
more, you can follow him on all these social platforms. I'll link all of them down in the description box below Moses, do you have a question for the podcast? Do you have a question for me? Questions? I have a lot of questions for you as going.

12:05
It will take a while but I hope you will answer me on. Okay. What advice can you give me now, as a starter?

12:14
The number of the number one advice that I can share with you and also anyone who's starting their own podcast is to

12:23
first and foremost not look at the analytics.

12:27
podcast, the podcasting industry is a small space it's growing. So unless you're really popular, unless you're sort of an unknown influence or an influencer on social media, you won't be getting the numbers that you maybe you're anticipating focus more on the consistency and the content that you're producing. And, like I've mentioned on

12:52
on the on the series is that when TMP was starting out, I was also getting like 510 20 downloads a day. But for me, it didn't really matter, you have to define the purpose of your podcast. And one mistake that a lot of people do is focusing only on the monetization side of podcasting, rather than what the podcasting can do for you directly and indirectly. TMP for me has been a blessing in terms of documenting the whole process of becoming a marketing expert, and providing a platform for accountability to learn and share information network with different people on the podcast, etc. So from that I can have benefit from that indirectly. And for anyone else, even if it's let's say mostly studying his own engineering just for the flow podcast is that for him, it could be maybe getting to know people in this industry. For him, it could be maybe a platform to share his knowledge or information that he has, for him could be something that maybe starting out his business that he can build his brand around his podcast, it could be anything. So don't primarily focus on the analytics. Look at the main purpose of starting your own podcast, what do you actually want to achieve? Be quite consistent how I showed you if you're looking to if you're looking for a podcasting starter kit, you can earn it, you can head on to the website and subscribe to the newsletter, we have a podcasting starter kit that shares you know, all the all the equipment you'll need, the tools you'll need. Some of the websites that you may be you might want be, you might want to look for, let's say if you want to do keyword research for your title, maybe you're looking at podcast, SEO.

14:36
There are different kinds of tools that you can use all that information and you don't want to mention all of them right now. But all those information is available and consistency. You know, the lifespan of podcasts is around seven episodes. And that's quite sad because a lot of people start their podcasts with the wrong intention. And that is purely focusing on monetization. So yeah, thank you. Yeah.

15:00
Looking forward for a lot of things, and thank you for having me.

15:06
